Stampede season always brings something special to our city, and this year, our team at Alberta Network of Immigrant Women (ANIW) wanted to mark the occasion with the people who make ANIW’s work possible.
This past Friday, July 10, 2026, we hosted a pancake breakfast at our office, and it turned out to be one of those mornings that reminded us why community matters so much in the work we do.
More than just Pancakes
We opened our doors to neighbours, longtime friends, new and former colleagues, and supporters who have been part of the ANIW story over the years. Some faces we see often; others we hadn’t caught up with in a while. But everyone who walked through the door brought the same warmth and genuine care for what ANIW stands for.
There’s something about a plate of pancakes, eggs, hashbrowns, jam, and a cup of coffee or tea that makes conversation easy. We heard stories, shared updates, and spent the morning connecting with our community.
A Little Extra Something
As the morning wound down and most guests had headed off to enjoy the rest of their Stampede plans, our team snuck in one more celebration: a birthday for our very own Vilma. It was a small, easygoing moment, just the team gathered around, but it felt like the perfect way to close out the day. Sometimes the best parts of an event happen after most people have already left.
Grateful for ANIW's Community
Events like this one are a good reminder that ANIW’s work doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens because of the neighbours who check in, old and new friends, and the supporters who show up, year after year, for the community we’re building together.
To everyone who joined us on Friday, and to everyone who supports ANIW throughout the year, thank you. We’re lucky to have you.
Yahoo, and we’ll see you at our next community event!
