Overview of the Project
Internationally trained dentists (ITDs) being graduates of non-accredited programs which is not recognized by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC) must follow one of two pathways.
Pathway 1: Equivalency process, National Dental Examination Board of Canada (NDEB) includes three examinations.
-Assessment of Fundamental Knowledge (AFK)
-Assessment of Clinical Judgement (ACJ)
-National Dental Examination of Clinical Competence (NDECC)
Pathway 2: Enrolling in an advanced dental degree program offered by Canadian faculties of dentistry.
Successful completion of either pathway allows ITDs to move to the next step NDEB certification and then provincial licensure.
Purpose
The purpose of the ANIW’s “Support Program for Internationally Trained Dentists (ITDs)” is to provide educational online learning sessions to help internationally trained dentists prepare for the three NDEB examinations: AFK, ACJ, and NDECC. ITDs receive services to reach their professional career goals. Services provided include:
- Orientation session the dentistry profession.
- Discussion and learning sessions on preparing for the examinations set by regulatory body (NDEB).
- Assist in specific individual requirements.
Online services are provided to ITDs to prepare and successfully complete the equivalency examinations set by NDEB.
- Assessment of Fundamental Knowledge
The learning sessions are online based on NDEB curriculum, group discussions and access to the course material 24/7.
- Assessment of Clinical Judgement
The learning and discussion to sessions to further practice critical analysis are online.
- National Dental Examination of Clinical Competence
Participants need to attend the clinical training sessions and work checks in person.
Clinical Training with A-dec 42L Simulator

Access to A-dec 42L Stationary Simulator
ANIW has added an A-dec 42L stationary simulator in the training room to support hands-on clinical practice. This simulator provides a realistic dental setup, allowing users to enhance their practical skills in a safe and controlled environment.
